United Way North East Ontario announced that its new Timmins office will be open at 221 Third Avenue, Unit 105.

"We are open for business," stated Michael Cullen, Executive Director. "We are very pleased to announce that Jennifer Gorman has taken on the position of Regional Navigator Cochrane Timiskaming. Jennifer's past United Way experience with area businesses and organizations will be a great benefit going forward."

Guy Fournier, President of the Board of Directors, noted, "Our regional transformation will not change United Way’s local commitment to ensure that money raised locally stays local. On the recommendations of local volunteers, the board has approved funding for the following charities: Access Better Living; AntiHunger Coalition Timmins; CNIB; Community Living; March of Dimes and Timmins Learning Centre. We are excited to begin our partnership with these crucial program providers in the Timmins area."

Three United Ways will be serving the residents and communities of Northern Ontario: United Way Thunder Bay serving the Northwest, United Way Sault St. Marie and Algoma Districts serving North Central Ontario and United Way North East Ontario serving the North East including the districts of Cochrane, Greater Sudbury, Nipissing, Parry Sound, Sudbury-Manitoulin, and Timiskaming.

“We are also happy to be able to provide a new program to the Cochrane and Timiskaming areas,” announced Linda Dupuis, Community Initiatives Manager. “Through our partnership with Contact North, we are able to offer the Young Leaders on Board 2.0 Program. This is an award winning program that provides training and mentorship for young adults between 20 and 35 who are interested in volunteering at the leadership level on local boards of directors. We will be looking for local not for profit organizations to act as host boards for program participants. In other communities, this program has proved very successful and has become a resource for the sector to be able to recruit trained board members."
