United Way North East Ontario announced that its new Timmins office will be open at 221 Third Avenue, Unit 105. "We are open for business," stated Michael Cullen, Executive Director. "We are very pleased to announce that Jennifer Gorman has taken on the position of Regional Navigator Cochrane Timiskaming. Jennifer's past United Way experience with area businesses and organizations will be a great benefit going forward." Guy Fournier, President of the Board of Directors, noted, "Our regional transformation will not change United Way’s local commitment to ensure that money raised locally stays local. On the recommendations of local volunteers, the board has approved funding for the following charities: Access Better Living; AntiHunger Coalition Timmins; CNIB; Community Living; March of Dimes and Timmins Learning Centre. We have expanded our territory and changed our name but our 100% local promise stays the same.
We wanted to share our recent news about expanding our UW territory to include the districts of Cochrane-Timiskaming! Our new name to reflect this regional transformation is United Way Centraide North East Ontario/ Nord-est de l'Ontario. This decision was made jointly to ensure a sustainable presence and achieve greater impact within this broader geographic. This regional transformation will not change United Way’s local commitment to ensure that money raised locally stays local.
Moving forward, three United Way's will be serving the residents and communities of Northern Ontario: United Way Thunder Bay serving the Northwest, United Way Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District serving North Central Ontario and United Way North East Ontario serving the North East including the districts of Cochrane, Greater Sudbury, Nipissing, Parry Sound, Sudbury-Manitoulin, and Timiskaming.
